TIPS / GUIDELINES
Concrete Floor Care
Cleaning
and freshening concrete floors,Outdoor pavements and driveways -
Scrub
with detergent and water, and while still wet, sprinkle some dry cement
powder over it and sweep off the excess with a stiff brook after about ten
{10} minutes.
Terrazzo,
concrete or granno finished floors or surfaces would withstand powdering
and fungus growth longer if coated with an acrylic sealer (outdoor or
indoor surfaces) and acrylic or emulsion sealer for indoor finishes;
Maintenance is also enhanced. Sealing
prevents liquids and substances from penetrating these surfaces easily
- A minimum of two or three coats are ideal.
Grouting
Maintenance
of groutings becomes easier for cementatious finishes when acrylic sealer
is applied, this reduces bacterial growth and makes cleaning easier.
All
highly polished or glazed floors tend to be less slip resistant.
This condition increases when moisture or liquids or fine loose
dirt is present on the surface, thus appropriate walk-off mats should be placed at all entrances, to trap residue from under shoe
soles. These mats and
surrounding areas should be serviced frequently to remove any build up of
grit or moisture.
Squeaking
Floors
Squeaking
can often be silenced indefinitely by pouring liquid soap into the
crevices between the boards causing the trouble, the soap acts as a
lubricant and should be applied hot to assure penetration into the wood
fibres.
Graphite
squirted into the cracks between noisy boards will also work successfully.
Terrazzo
-
The
floor must be properly sealed and finished with a quality product to
prevent powdering and staining.
-
Acids
are very harmful to the floor.
-
Use
several coats of a true sealer so that the floor finish will adhere to
the terrazzo.
-
Use
a cleaner that has a PH balance of less than 10.0 on the PH scale.
-
To
remove an acid spot, use an alkali to neutralize it.
-
If
an acid (including fruit), is spilled on the terrazzo, flush with
water immediately. If it is a strong acid, mix baking soda with water.
-
Avoid
steel wool. Steel wool should not be used since particles left on the
floor may rust and cause stains.
-
Avoid
the use of crystalline cleaners.
Ceramic
Tile
-
Dust
mop daily.
-
Damp
mop regularly with a mild, neutral cleaner / conditioner.

Use
an acrylic maintenance sealer to protect the tile surface against foot
abrasion.
